Memorial Day is an American holiday, celebrated on the last Monday of May to honor our fallen heroes. There is no official ceremony for the day, though there are dozens of customs that have been adopted over the years. Generally the flag is flown at half staff until noon, “Taps” is played, and red poppies can be worn. But nowadays, there are many more modern customs that have become a common theme of the day. Namely, Memorial Day is known as the unofficial start of summer, and it’s generally heralded with a huge barbecue, stars and stripes decor and pausing for one minute at 3 PM to remember our fallen.
