Unicorn Resin Ring Dish DIY
Unicorn crafts are truly adorable–are you hooked on everything unicorn? Hey friends, it’s Natalie from Doodlecraft sharing an especially fun and simple resin craft DIY project. A resin ring dish is a great way to keep jewelry organized and look cute simultaneously.
- EasySculpt Epoxy Modeling Clay
- Cling wrap
- Small kitchen bowl
- White, black, pink and gold paint
- Resin Spray
- Gold Spray Paint
- E6000 Glue
Begin by reading the directions for the EasySculpt clay.EasySculpt is a 1 to 1 ratio. Put on your disposable gloves and remove the same amount of clay and hardener, as shown below.Roll the clay together until the colors blend and all marbling is gone. Then let them sit on a non-stick surface for about 20-30 minutes. Check periodically for the tackiness of the clay. Separate 2 parts, one for the dish and one much smaller part for the horn.
Form the Dish & Horn
After 20-30 minutes the clay is much easier to work with and less sticky. Set the bowl upside down on the table and place the cling wrap over the top of the bowl. Pat the clay until it is about the diameter of the bowl. Set the clay on the cling wrap to cure. Roll the other section of clay into a unicorn horn about 6 inches tall.
After about 2-4 hours, check to see how firm the clay is. If it is still pliable but fairly firm, pull the dish off the cling wrap carefully and trim the edges of the bowl with scissors. Replace the dish on top of the bowl, then let them sit and cure overnight.
Time to Paint!
Now it is time to decorate and paint the unicorn ring dish.
Begin by painting the inside of the dish white. Spray paint the unicorns horn gold.Let it dry and then paint the edges of the dish with gold paint. After the dish and the horn are dry, use the E6000 glue to secure the horn in the dish. Some ring dishes posts are centered, but for a unicorn, the higher set horn is perfect. Let the E6000 glue dry for at least 4 hours. It’s uniquely interesting just like this!
Next step is to paint the unicorn face. Start with smooshed, mirrored “u” shapes for the sleepy eyes.Add an eyelash or two!Add some light pink circle cheeks, just below the eyes. Let the paint dry, then spray the entire unicorn with resin spray.Resin Spray is amazing and glossy, this adds the professional ceramic look to the project. Let the spray dry completely.Absolute stunning perfection! Now this unicorn is ready to keep track of jewelry while looking like a jewel itself. This unicorn ring dish is shallow and surprisingly sturdy, it’s not going to fall over even with the big horn.
This would make a fabulous handmade gift for a unicorn or jewelry lover!
