Instructions

  • Add a little bit of Cotton Candy PolyColor Resin Powder into a small mixing cup. Next, add a little bit of alcohol to the cup and stir the mixture together with a small detail brush. It should be a thicker, glue-like consistency. If it's too thin, it will run too much into other areas of the mold.
  • Carefully paint the mushroom cap area with the powder/alcohol mixture. Be careful not to get any pigment on any of the dots or stem areas. If you do, dip a cotton swab into alcohol and do your best to wipe it away. If the mixture dries out while you are painting it on, add a little more alcohol.
  • Prepare the Alumilite Amazing Clear Cast according to package directions. Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area, wear disposable gloves, and protect your workspace. Add equal parts resin and hardener to the mixing cup. Each mold will need about 10 ml of resin. Stir the resin mixture together with a stir stick for two minutes, making sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing cup as you go. After 2 minutes, pour the resin into a clean mixing cup and stir the resin again for another minute or two with a clean stir stick.
  • If the resin mixture is cloudy or if you see any streaks, you will need to keep stirring until it becomes clear. To keep the bubbles down to a minimum, don’t stir too fast, and give the resin a minute or two to “rest” after mixing to let any bubbles rise to the top.
  • Add a generous amount of Pearl Metallic PolyColor Resin Powder into the resin cup and mix well until completely combined.
  • Slowly pour the resin into each of the molds until it reaches the top. Be careful not to overfill. Wait a few minutes for the bubbles to rise to the top, and then spritz the resin with alcohol to remove surface bubbles.
  • Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed area for 24 hours. You will know that the resin is cured and ready to be removed from the mold when the surface is no longer tacky and pulls away from the mold edges.
  • Next, carefully remove the mushrooms from the molds. Cut away any over-poured resin using scissors, and sand any rough edges if necessary.
  • Use the jewelry pliers to turn the loop on the earring hooks 90º.  This will make it so that the earrings hang correctly when they're being worn. These can be kind of fragile, so work carefully.
  • Open the jump rings and hook them through the hole in the top of the earrings. Attach the earring hooks to the jump ring and make sure they are completely closed so that they don't come off!
