Create DIY resin gemstones and use them to personalize a custom clutch using jewelry molds, EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy, and plain clutch!
Hey Resin Crafters! Amber Oliver here with another great resin craft. I’m always looking for ways to add a bit more color in my life! It’s fun to take something that’s simple or plain and add your own personality to it! Take these plain zip pouches I found at the craft store. I knew they could be useful: as a makeup bag, a coin purse, a pencil bag, etc. but they were just so plain. I updated a few with paint pens. but wanted to create one that was a bit more fancy. I used the ETI jewelry molds to create resin gems in two sizes and created this adorable resin gemstone clutch!
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR DIY RESIN GEMSTONES CLUTCH:
- EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy
- Jewelry Molds
- Mixing Cups
- Stir Sticks
- Acrylic Paint
- Glue
- Clutch
Step 1: First, prepare the EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy. This is a multi-step process so don’t start mixing until you are ready to do the whole process from beginning to end!Start by mixing EQUAL parts of the Hardener and the Resin.
Stir for two minutes (be sure to scrape the bottoms and sides) then pour from the first cup into a second and mix with a new stir stick for another minute.
Step 2: Now, that the resin is ready, add in a few drops of acrylic paint and mix thoroughly. If you’d like multiple colors just separate into multiple cups before adding paint.
Step 3: Next, pour very slowly into the jewelry molds and allow to set. Do NOT over fill but any drips can easily be cleaned up after they set.
Step 4: After enough time has passed for the resin to cure, you can remove the gems from their molds!
Step 5: Glue the gems to your clutch bag with fabric glue!
Before you glue, you may find a little lip around the backside of your pieces. Use a piece of sandpaper to gently sand those away so the back is flat. It will be much easier to glue when they are smooth!
These cute little resin gemstones are the perfect addition to any plain purse or clutch but there are so many possible ways to use them! Add them on shoes, hats, or even Christmas decorations! I jazzed up a plain stocking with another set of these colorful gems!
I hope this project inspires you to whip up you own resin gemstones!
