Metallic Leaf Serving Tray with High Gloss Resin
Hi Resin Crafts friends, it’s Natalie from Doodlecraft, sharing a simple resin craft. This metallic leaf tray is uniquely stunning and perfect for a catch all or party serving tray. Finish the tray in an afternoon and leave it to cure overnight, ready to serve from quickly.
Use the tray as a catch all for books, knick-knacks or even this flower centerpiece made with resin.
Supplies Needed:
- Serving Tray in need of upcycling
- Envirotex Lite High Gloss Resin
- Colored Metallic Leaf
- Gilding Adhesive
- Paintbrush
- Heat Gun or Mini Torch
- Mixing Cups, stirring sticks and disposable gloves
Begin by pouring some gilding adhesive all over the inside of the tray.
Spread the adhesive around with the paintbrush. Let the adhesive dry clear…but it will still be tacky.
Then place the metallic leaf all over the tray.
One square at a time as pictured below.
Mix the colors around to add balance on the tray.
Take the tray outside or place it inside a big cardboard box.
Use a light paintbrush to remove any loose metallic leafing.
It is looking bright and fun…but a little too rigid.
Return to your workstation and add daubs of adhesive all over the tray. Again, let them dry clear.
Then place pieces of metallic leaf on the daubs of adhesive, balancing out the colors.
As earlier, dust off the excess gold leaf with a paintbrush.
Add more metallic leaf if desired.
Now for the finishing step with the Envirotex Lite Pour-On High Gloss Finish.
Mix the resin according to package directions. Mix a full 8 ounces for a 12×12 inch tray.
After mixing thoroughly, pour on the center of the tray and shift gently to ensure the entire bottom of the tray is covered with a resin layer.
Use the heat gun or mini torch to pop any bubbles that have formed after about 20 minutes.
Cover the top of the tray to prevent dust and debris from falling on the resin while it cures. Let it cure overnight or a couple of days.
Then fill the tray with decorative items or use it to serve for a fun party! The bright colors are stunning, playful and a little bling!
