HOW TO MAKE EPOXY RESIN GIFT TAGS:
Printable instruction card can be found below.
STEP 1:
Prepare the Alumilite Amazing Clear Cast according to package directions. Be sure to work in a well-ventilated area, wear disposable gloves, and protect your workspace.
Add equal parts resin and hardener to the mixing cup. Each mold will need about 15 ml of resin. Stir the resin mixture together with a stir stick for two minutes, making sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the mixing cup as you go. After 2 minutes, pour the resin into a clean mixing cup and stir the resin again for another minute or two with a clean stir stick.
If the resin mixture is cloudy, you will need to keep stirring until it becomes clear. To keep the bubbles down to a minimum, don’t stir too fast, and give the resin a minute or two to “rest” after mixing to let any bubbles rise to the top.
STEP 2:
If you are making multiple gift tags at once, split the resin into separate mixing cups. Add a generous amount of your favorite glitter or color with PolyColor Resin Powder into the resin cup(s) and mix together well until completely combined.
Amazing Clear Cast is the perfect type of resin to use for these gift tags. The resin mixes easily with minimal bubbling, and cures crystal clear so that the glitter is the star of the show. Because it cures overnight into a durable plastic, I can confidently share these gift tags knowing that they are sure to last for years.
STEP 3:
Slowly pour the resin into the mold until it reaches the top. Be careful not to overfill. Wait a few minutes for the bubbles to rise to the top, and then blow through a straw or spritz the resin with alcohol to remove surface bubbles.
STEP 4:
Leave the resin to cure in an undisturbed area for 24 hours. You will know that the resin is cured and ready to be removed from the mold when the surface is no longer tacky and pulls away from the mold edges.
STEP 5:
Next, carefully remove the gift tags from the molds. Cut away any over-poured resin using scissors, and sand any rough edges if necessary. The process of “demolding” is my favorite step of the entire resin crafting process. Every project is unique, and it’s so exciting to see the results of a colorful resin pour!
If the resin still feels a little flexible, it may just need more time to cure. This is totally normal, and you will just need to let the project sit in a warm, flat area to cure for a few hours (or days, depending on the climate of the room where it’s curing).
STEP 6.1:
Initial/Monogram Gift Tag: Cut initials or monogram out of adhesive vinyl using a cutting machine, or cut by hand using scissors or a craft knife. Weed away the excess vinyl by removing any parts of the design that don’t belong. Another alternative is using alphabet stickers!
Center the vinyl or sticker to front of the gift tag. When it came to using an initial, I found it easiest to apply the vinyl on the front of the gift tags like a sticker. It’s just one piece and very simple to apply. Once it is in place, rub the vinyl down well to remove any air bubbles.
STEP 6.2:
Full Name Gift Tag: Cut the name out of adhesive vinyl using a cutting machine, or cut them out by hand using scissors or a craft knife. Weed away the excess vinyl by removing any parts of the design that don’t belong.
Cut a small piece of transfer tape and place it over the name, and rub it down well with a scraper tool or credit card. Next, peel the transfer tape away and the name should come up with the tape. If it doesn’t, lay the tape down and scrape over the tape again with more pressure. Center the vinyl on front of the gift tag and press it in place. Rub over the transfer tape again with a scraper or credit card. Peel the transfer tape away to reveal the gift tag!
I love how all of the gift tags look together, and how different they all are to match the style of who they will belong to! If they are well cared for, the gift tags should stay great shape for a long time. If you want to give the tags some extra protection, you can top the pieces with a thin layer of Amazing Clear Cast or spray them well with Resin Spray and Sealer.
STEP 7:
Thread the gift ribbon through the opening in the gift tag and tie it to the gift. Now your gift has been labeled (in the cutest way possible) with a personalized resin gift tag! As a bonus, the recipient can now reuse the tag as a keychain or ornament!
I think these Personalized Resin Gift Tags are going to be the perfect holiday gift accessory. I can’t wait to be able to share them with my friends and family! As always, I would love to hear what you think about these gift tags! Which tag from this set is your favorite?
