You will need:
Resin Mixing cups
Gold Leaf Paint/Paintbrush
Nail File
Parchment Paper
Silicone Tub and Tile Caulk
Let’s get started doing in a couple of days what it takes nature thousands of years to do!Begin by taping parchment paper to your work surface. Because the resin has a strong smell work in a well ventilated area. Use the silicone caulk to draw multiple rings on the parchment. Start with the smallest ring and build up to the largest.Let the silicone dry completely. It will be rubbery. Next get the resin set up. You will need a mixing cup and stirring stick for each color of resin you decide to make, plus a large mixing cup and stirring stick.Mix up 4 ounces (more or less depending on how many you are doing) of clear casting resin. Follow the package instructions and mix for the proper amount of time. Then pout the mixed resin into the smaller cups, add drops of dye to each cup, mix colors if desired. Stir the cups with individual sticks.Pour the colored resin into the rings between the silicone. Let them stand for about 30 minutes. Now remove the silicone without the resin, leaving an empty cavity. Leave the outside silicone ring in place, just remove the inside ones. After the silicone rings are removed, let them sit another 30-60 minutes until hardened. Don’t add clear resin too soon, the colors will bleed right into it and not leave the rings of color.Mix up another 4 ounces of clear polyester resin, this time leaving it clear. Pour it gently over the top of the slices, filling in all the gaps and leaving a smooth surface on top. Let them sit for 24 hours to cure. Finally, remove the last silicone ring and pull the resin slices off the parchment paper. They look like gorgeous little agates. Use a nail file to sand down the edges to a uniform shape. Now use the liquid leaf paint in gold and a paintbrush to paint the edges of each agate slice and let them dry completely. Now they are ready to use for whatever you can imagine. Place cards, coasters and more!Perfect for home decor pieces!Makes a fun table setting! There are so many fun things to make with resin–try these agate slices today!
