Beautiful Resin and Wood Projects
Resin and wood projects are becoming more popular as people look for unique ways to personalize their homes.
From coffee tables to cutting boards, there are endless possibilities for resin-based creations.
And the best part is that resin is relatively easy to work with, so even beginner crafters can create beautiful resin-wood pieces.
If you’re new to working with resin and epoxy, a good place to start is with a tabletop or surface coating project. For this, you’ll need a wooden table or surface (preferably one with a smooth surface), a resin mixture, and some stir sticks.
The mixing ratio for resin varies depending on the brand you use, so be sure to follow the instructions on the package.
Once you’ve mixed the resin and hardener together, simply pour it onto the table or surface and spread it out evenly. Most quality tabletop epoxies are self-leveling so there is minimal effort needed here. Then all you need to do is wait for it to cure!
There are countless other epoxy and wood projects you can try, from coasters and serving boards to jewelry boxes and picture frames.
So why not give resin a try today? With a little creativity, you can create something truly unique that will be cherished for years to come.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHEN WORKING WITH EPOXY RESIN AND WOOD
Will these products discolor or turn slightly yellow over time?
ALL epoxy coatings will discolor to some degree over time. There are epoxies that have UV inhibitors to slow this process but it is part of the nature of epoxies to amber over time. Generally, this discoloration goes undetected on most colored surfaces such as most wood. However, with age, a slight yellow contrast may become visible on very light or white surfaces.
Do I need to seal coat my project before pouring epoxy?
Most surfaces must be sealed prior to coating. Porous surfaces such as wood, paper and fabric require at least one or two good seal coats. Use white craft glue such as Amazing Sealer to seal the porous surface. Non-porous surfaces such as metal, glass, or plastic can be coated without sealing.
If in doubt, we highly recommend you test the surface to be coated before moving forward with your project.
What is the best way to remove bubbles?
Provided you are working in a room where the temperature is a minimum 70º F / 21º C and the resin mixture is warm, bubbles from mixing will generally rise to the surface and break on their own. However, if necessary they can be easily removed 10 to 15 minutes after the coating has been applied. To do so on small projects, you can lightly “exhale” slowly across the surface or use a small handheld torch or long arm lighter. Large projects such as bar and table tops may require a larger hand-held propane torch. Follow the product instructions for removing bubbles.
